Senior Jalen Washington enjoyed the best two-game stretch of his college career to help unbeaten Vanderbilt win the Battle 4 Atlantis championship on Friday, when Cade Tyson had another prolific game in another Minnesota loss.
Washington, named to the All-Tournament Team, followed up an 11-point game in Thursday’s 79–74 Commodores’ semifinal victory with a career-high 19 points and two 3-pointers in their 96–71 victory over St. Mary’s in the championship game in The Bahamas.
He made 7 of 11 shots and added a pair of blocks as Vanderbilt moved to 8–0.
It was his first time with back-to-back double-figure scoring performances in 101 career games. The best previous two-game performance was last season, when he followed up an 18-point game for UNC in a 107–55 win over American with eight points in an 87–69 victory at Hawaii.
Teammate and fellow former Tar Heel Tyler Nickel followed up a 16-point game in the semifinals with 11 points in the championship game.
For the second time in two games at the Acrisure Series tournament in Palm Desert, Calif., Cade Tyson played 39 minutes for Minnesota. On Friday, he poured in 29 points, going 12 of 14 at the free-throw line with five rebounds, four assists and a steal.

That came in an 86–79 loss in the consolation game to Santa Clara to drop Minnesota to 4–4.
It was Tyson’s best scoring game since scoring 30 in Minnesota’s opening-game 87–60 victory over Gardner-Webb on Nov. 3, and his third game this season making double-digit free-throw attempts. He has hit a perimeter shooting slump, making only 3 of 11 3-point attempts in the last three games after 11 of 28 in the first five games.
Teonni Key made all seven field-goal attempts and both free-throw attempts, collecting 16 points and four rebounds as No. 16 Kentucky (8–1) blew out Morgan State in the Friday consolation game of the Puerto Rico Tournament.
She scored double-figure points in the first five games, but had combined for only 15 points in the previous three games.
Also on Friday, Tulsa (5–1) suffered its first loss, 75–59 to Kent State in the first round of the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship, with RyLee Grays scoring three points with two rebounds for Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane faces Houston at 11 a.m. Sunday (FloCollege) in the consolation game.
On Saturday, Tray Crisp’s Mississippi State team plays at home against Louisiana-Monroe.
