Former Carolina guard Seth Trimble helped his NBA pre-draft case this week with a productive three-game showing at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.
Trimble averaged 13.6 points and 4.3 rebounds, shooting 46.1% from the floor as his Norfolk Sports Club finished 2–1.
His best performance was in Saturday’s 85–81 victory over Sales Systems Inc., when he scored 20 points, earning player-of-the-game honors. He had a transition dunk in the face of former UNC teammate Jalen Washington that earned the No. 4 slot on ESPN’s Top 10 plays.
Trimble posted a 41½-inch standing vertical jump during the tournament’s testing portion, the best mark among the 64 participants.
In 33 minutes, he was 8 of 14 from the floor with two 3-pointers, five rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.
Washington’s teammate on that Sales Systems Inc. team was another one of Trimble’s former UNC teammates — Cade Tyson.
Tyson, who played his senior season at Minnesota, had his best game of the event on Saturday, with 24 points, three 3-pointers, and 10-of-13 shooting from the floor, along with three rebounds. Washington, whose senior season was at Vanderbilt, collected 12 points, three rebounds and three assists.
The PIT is a showcase for players who have just finished their senior college seasons. Also playing in the event was former UNC and N.C. State center Ven Allen-Lubin.
None of the former Carolina players made the all-tournament team.
In Trimble’s first game, he had nine points and two rebounds in Thursday’s 77–73 loss to Portsmouth Partnership. On Friday, he had 13 points, six rebounds and two steals in a 94–91 victory over Portsmouth Economic Development.
Washington’s best game was Friday’s 94–90 win over Round’s Landscape Service, with 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and a block. Tyson had six points and two steals in that game.
In their team’s 78–74 loss to the Portsmouth Sports Club on Thursday, Washington had eight points and four rebounds while Tyson had five points, three rebounds and three assists.
Lubin’s team, Mike Duman Inc., went 1–2, with his best game coming when he had 17 points and nine rebounds in Thursday’s 104–95 victory over Portsmouth Economic Development. Lubin had seven points and six rebounds on Friday and contributed five points and nine rebounds on Saturday.
