Able has second consecutive impressive game at NBA Draft Combine

By R.L. Bynum

One day after saying he was going “back and forth” about whether to play at UNC next season or stay in the NBA draft, Matt Able had another impressive showing at the NBA Draft Combine.

Able scored 17 points in just under 22 minutes on Thursday in his Carpenter team’s 100–76 loss to Tyler Nickel’s Rivers team in a scrimmage at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena.

In 21 minutes, 59 seconds, Able was 6 of 16 from the floor, made 4 of 9 3-point attempts and had four rebounds and 1 assist.

This comes after he scored 15 points and three 3-pointers on Wednesday in another scrimmage.

Able entered the draft process while keeping the option of playing at Carolina open as he gathers feedback from NBA teams. He has until May 27 to withdraw from the NBA draft process and maintain his college eligibility, meaning the next two weeks will shape whether he heads to Chapel Hill as planned or stays in the draft.

“It’s definitely a tough decision,” Able told ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. “I love UNC, I’m excited to get over there at some point … I’m still back and forth on it. I gotta think about it some more, get with my camp and figure it out.”

Nickel had eight points, two 3-pointers, five rebounds and an assist for the victorious Rivers team.

Able played with former Duke forward Maliq Brown, who had eight points and seven rebounds.
