CAA Player of Year shortstop Laskofski commits to UNC

By R.L. Bynum

North Carolina got a commitment Saturday from former William & Mary shortstop Jamie Laskofski, who was the CAA Player of the Year this season and is ranked No. 39 in the 2027 MLB draft.

Laskofski announced his commitment on Saturday morning on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Next! @DiamondHeels.”

With junior Jake Schaffner likely going into the draft, UNC needs a shortstop.

Laskofski, who will be a junior next season, was in the top 10 in the CAA in 11 categories: leading in runs (65), and triples (6); second in OPS (1.129); third in hitting (.355), steals (36), slugging percentage (.655); fourth in homers (13) and assists (126); fifth in on-base percentage (.464); and ninth in RBI (45).

Last season, he broke the school record with five steals on March 22 against N.C. A&T.

As a freshman, Laskofski was Second Team All-CAA and made the CAA All-Rookie Team.

He is from Burke, Va., where he led Lake Braddock High School to four district titles, and he set the school record with 106 hits.

His father, Mike, played at William & Mary in the mid-1990s and was a two-time All-CAA selection.
