Day, time for Carolina’s opener against Ole Miss in Omaha is set

By R.L. Bynum

The schedule is set for No. 4 Carolina’s pod in the College World Series.

The No. 5-seed Tar Heels (50–12–1) will face No. 23-ranked Ole Miss (41–21) at 7 p.m. Friday at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, with No. 16-seed West Virginia (48–15) facing Troy (38–30) in the first game in Omaha at 2:06 p.m., with both games airing on ESPN.

Carolina’s second game will be on Sunday. The losers of Friday’s game play at 2 p.m. in an elimination game and the winners play at 7 p.m., with both games on ESPN.

UNC advanced with a thrilling come-from-behind, walkoff 4–3 victory Sunday over USC to win the Chapel Hill Super Regional and become the only team in the country to make the College World Series two of the last three seasons.

The other pod bracket starts Saturday with No. 15-seed and No. 13-ranked Kansas (45–17) or Oklahoma (37–22) facing No. 7-seed and No. 16-ranked Alabama (41–19) at 3 p.m. and No. 6-seed and No. 6-ranked Texas (45–13) meeting No. 3-seed and No. 3-ranked Georgia (51–12) at 8 p.m., with both games on ESPN.

On Monday afternoon, the Jayhawks and Sooners resumed a game suspended Sunday night because of bad weather, with Kansas needing two victories to win the Lawrence Regional. The Tide advanced on Monday with a 7–2 victory over St. John’s, after the game was suspended Sunday night due to rain.

UNC carries history to Omaha, with another chance to change it.
