Wilson puts on show in possibly final Summer League game; Veesaar has best game with 20 points

By R.L. Bynum

Caleb Wilson put on a show in what might have been his final Summer League game on a night when former UNC teammate Henri Veesar had his best game of the summer.

Wilson’s Chicago Bulls lost again, this time to the Utah Jazz 80–63 on Monday, but he put together a dazzling all-around performance with 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

After his season-high for blocks at Carolina was four twice (against N.C. Central and East Carolina), he bettered that by swatting away five shots on Monday.

High draft picks generally only play two Summer League games, which is why Utah played without No. 2 overall pick Darryn Peterson, who had already played two games.

After making 7 of 12 3-point attempts on Friday, Wilson hit 3 of 8 on Monday. He had issues at the free-throw line, missing all six attempts. His worst free-throw shooting game as a Tar Heel was when he went 2-for-5 against Ohio State.

Veesaar had a summer-highs of 20 points and four 3-pointers to go with four rebounds, three assists and a block to lead his Atlanta Hawks to an 80–63 victory over the Boston Celtics.

In the Milwaukee Bucks’ 95–88 loss to the Phoenix Suns, Pete Nance had seven points, three rebounds and two assists, and Cormac Ryan didn’t play.

In games involving Tar Heels on Tuesday, Drake Powell’s Brooklyn Nets face the Sacramento Kings at 6 p.m. and Seth Trimble’s Washington Wizards take on the Bulls at 8 p.m., with both games on Prime Video. It remains to be seen if Wilson plays in that game for Chicago.

The Las Vegas schedule reflects each team’s first four Summer League games there, which count toward tournament seeding. The top four teams advance to the semifinals July 18, with the championship game July 19. TV assignments for several later-round games were still to be determined.

Note that an experimental one-free-throw rule is in place. One, two and three free-throw sequences produce a single attempt worth the same total points, except for the final two minutes of the fourth quarter and all overtime periods when standard free‑throw rules apply.
