DUBLIN — The football broadcasts on the Tar Heel Sports Network will sound a little different this season without a longtime voice and a returning voice in a new role.
Lee Pace, the sideline reporter on the network for 22 years, has retired from the network and will be replaced by Bryn Renner, who shared analyst duties last season with Joe Jauch. Jauch, who also called Liberty games last season, will be the analyst for every UNC game.
Jones Angell is back for his 15th year as the Voice of the Tar Heels, but the network will lose longtime chief engineer Ben Alexander. UNC’s opener at noon ET Saturday in Dublin against TCU at the Aer Lingus College Football Classic will be his last game on the network.
Coach Bill Belichick honored Pace, who worked 262 football games since first becoming the sideline reporter in 2004, during his press conference Monday at the Kenan Football Center.
Pace, who is be in Dublin this week, announced his retirement on X (formerly Twitter) in July, saying he would still write for goheels.com and Born & Bred, the latter the official magazine of the Rams Club. He will also be working on the centennial edition of his book Football in a Forest. He still writes Extra Points, publishing a column about the Ireland trip this week and is also reporting this week for unc.edu.
Renner was a UNC quarterback from 2009 to 2013, leading the ACC in passing efficiency in 2011 (159.4). Over four seasons, Renner threw for 8,221 yards and 64 touchdowns.
Jauch, a wide receiver and part of Coach Mack Brown’s first recruiting class in 1988, joined the network in 2024.
