Former UNC linebacker Cedric Gray has entered the NFL’s concussion protocol after being involved in an accident over the weekend, the Tennessee Titans announced Monday.
The Titans said in a statement that Gray “was involved in a UTV [ultra terrain vehicle] accident in Tennessee and sustained a concussion and minor injuries.” The team added that it expects him back on the field once he clears the protocol.
“We look forward to Cedric returning to the field soon and in full health when he clears the NFL’s concussion protocol,” the statement read.
Gray, a fourth-round pick in 2024 (106th overall), is entering his third NFL season and is coming off a breakout 2025 season. He led the team and was fourth in the league with 164 tackles (97 solo), with a sack and a fumble recovery across 16 games.
There is no timetable yet for his return, and no further details on the severity of his injuries or the circumstances of the accident have been released.
The Titans have not said whether Gray will be placed on injured reserve or how the linebacker room will be reshuffled in his absence, though Joe Bachie and Dorian Mausi, who filled in for Gray during a concussion absence last season, would figure to see increased snaps at inside linebacker if he is unable to play.
