Micah Ojo, one of the top wings in the Class of 2027, announced Thursday morning on Instagram that she has committed to North Carolina.

The 6–1 star from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Va., picked the Tar Heels over Vanderbilt and Duke. She is ranked No. 6 overall by ESPN in the class and is the No. 2 wing.

She is the latest top prospect to choose Courtney Banghart’s program, after No. 4-ranked Kate Harpring out of the Class of 2026, No. 13 Nyla Brooks out of the Class of 2025 and No. 4 Ciera Toomey in the Class of 2023.

UNC first offered Ojo a scholarship in August 2024, and she made her official visit last month.

Ojo was named the 2025–26 Gatorade Virginia Girls Basketball Player of the Year after averaging 16.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.7 steals and 2.6 blocks.

“Obviously, UNC is just like a great school academically, but then also just like the people there,” she told Rivals. “I mean, the amount of time Coach Banghart and the staff have invested in the relationship and getting to know my family and I. Also just the players, getting to meet them on my visit and just the energy, that great energy. It’s just great all around.”

Princess Anne went 28–0 and beat Menchville 65–62 in overtime for its fourth straight Virginia state championship to extend its win streak to 71 games.

In the championship game, Ojo collected 25 points, 15 rebounds, six blocks and two steals.

She is a two-time Class 5 Player of the Year and a three-time MVP of the Class 5 state championship game, and played for the USA gold-medal teams in the U16 Women’s AmeriCup in 2025 and the 2026 Women’s World Cup in July.

Ojo averaged 11 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists at the World Cup, collecting 20 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 82–73 victory over Spain in the gold-medal game on July 19.

Ojo is also a standout student with a weighted 4.20 GPA, and she has volunteered as an organizational officer with the TIDE Coalition, a group focused on inclusivity in Virginia Beach public schools, and with National Honor Society service projects.

Kellam High coach Brook Parker calls her a player who can score inside and out, with athleticism and length, and a defender who is tough to guard. Her blend of size, defense and perimeter skill has made her a priority for programs across the ACC and the SEC.

“Micah is an outstanding player and a great person,” Parker said. “She can score inside and out. She’s very athletic and long. She’s a great defender and tough to defend.”
