UNC falls in Top 25 ahead of ACC title game; what are Heels’ bowl projections?

North Carolina and Clemson head into Saturday’s ACC championship game in Charlotte trying to rebound after home losses to rivals that dropped both in the latest AP Top 25 poll. The Tigers (10–2) fell three spots to No. 10 after a 31–30 Saturday upset loss to South Carolina and the Tar Heels (9–3) dropped six spots to No. 24 following a 30–27 double-overtime loss to N.C. State for their second consecutive home defeat.

UNC proves tournament committee wrong, rolls by Irish for 31st Women’s College Cup

North Carolina was surprised when the NCAA women’s soccer selection committee gave the No. 4-ranked Notre Dame a No. 1 seed and the No. 2-ranked Tar Heels a No. 2 seed. That meant that their quarterfinals meeting was in South Bend, Ind. But UNC proved that the seeding was flawed Saturday night by ousting the Irish 2–0 in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals to earn a record 31st trip to the College Cup and end their 12-game unbeaten streak.

Nance, Love shoot UNC past pesky Pilots

Top-ranked North Carolina likely will eventually get burned playing to the level of its opponent but it didn’t happen Thursday against Portland, thanks to Pete Nance and Caleb Love. Nance matched his career-high with 28 points (with a career-high five 3-pointers) and Love added 23 as the Tar Heels finally held off hot-shooting Portland for an 89–81 victory in the first round of the Phil Knight Invitational at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore.

How to watch, listen to UNC football, basketball on busy week with conflicts

There were groans throughout the Carolina fanbase when everyone realized that the men’s basketball game and the football game on Black Friday would overlap. Fans at home will no doubt use a two-television setup, but it’s frustrating for fans who are at Kenan Stadium to see the No. 18 Tar Heels face N.C. State, knowing that they are missing the top-ranked men’s basketball team’s game.

Hodgson, Kelly shoot down JMU threat as UNC women win

No. 13 North Carolina’s first road test of the season was just that against a feisty James Madison team. But the perimeter shooting of Eva Hodgson gave the Tar Heels control, and Deja Kelly put the game away. Kelly scored 20 of her team-high 22 points in the second half as the Tar Heels (4–0) took the lead for good late in the third quarter on their way to a 76–65 victory Sunday afternoon over the Dukes in Harrisonburg, Va.
