Tar Heels in NFL: Hollins’ first reception is big one; Ebron makes game-winning TD catch for 8-0 Steelers

By R.L. Bynum

Mostly a special-teams player for the Miami Dolphins this season, Mack Hollins picked an excellent time to get his first reception this season.

In his only reception of the game, Hollins caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, making the catch above the defender’s helmet at the far-right edge of the end zone. That catch tied Miami’s game at Arizona at 31 with 11:19 left and the Dolphins won it 34–31.

According to Next Gen Stats, that pass had a completion probability of 16.4%, the most improbable completion by the Dolphins in the last three seasons.

In that game, rookie defensive end Jason Strowbridge made his NFL debut and had one assist. Miami picked him in the fifth round of the 2020 draft.

Eric Ebron and the Pittsburgh Steelers just keep rolling along. The Steelers won at Dallas 24–19 and are off to their best start in franchise history at 8-0. Ebron had three catches and the game-winning touchdown reception.

Quarterback Ben Rothlisberger connected on an 11-yard touchdown pass with Ebron with 2:14 left. Ebron hurdled over Cowboys cornerback Saivion Smith at the 3-yard line on his way to the end zone.

Does Ebron at the top of that leap remind anybody else of the Jumpman logo?

Mitch Trubisky was inactive for the Chicago Bears’ 24–17 loss at Tennessee after injuring his right (throwing) shoulder in his only play the week before. He won’t need surgery and won’t go on injured reserve. This is the third consecutive season Trubisky has suffered a shoulder injury.
