Tar Heels in NFL: Brown makes dazzling catch in Washington win; when UNC alums play this weekend

By R.L. Bynum

Rookie wide receiver Dyami Brown showed a bit of the flash during Washington’s 30–29 victory Thursday night over the New York Giants that is very familiar to North Carolina fans.

Brown leaped to catch a high throw from quarterback Taylor Heinicke for a 22-yard reception late in the first quarter. That was the third-longest play of the night for Washington, and Brown finished with 34 yards on three catches from six targets.

Brown started for the second consecutive week after Curtis Samuel went on injured reserve with a groin injury before the opener. Samuel could return as soon as Week 4.

In the meantime, Brown, Terry McLaurin and Adam Humphies make up a regular trio when Washington goes to three-wide sets.

Brown played 87% of Washington’s offensive snaps (62), ran 45 routes and was targeted on 14% of the passes from Heinicke, who was 34 of 46 for 336 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Washington outside linebacker Cole Holcomb started and played all 69 of his team’s defensive snaps, collecting four tackles and two assists.
