Want to send UNC teams off to the Sweet 16? Here’s how

By R.L. Bynum

Carolina is one of three schools with both its men’s and women’s teams in the Sweet 16 and fans will get the chance to gather twice Wednesday to send each team off for their Friday regional semifinal games.

UNC, which has both teams in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2015, joins Iowa State and Michigan as the only schools with its men’s and women’s team still playing in the NCAA tournament.

The No. 8-seed men’s team (26–9) will depart for the East Regional semifinals in Philadelphia to face UCLA. Fans can show their support by entering the Smith Center at Entrance A at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the team scheduled to depart at 6:15.

Parking will be available after 5 p.m. in the Williamson, Bowles and Manning lots.

The No. 5-seed women’s team (25–6) doesn’t have as far to go since it will play at the Greensboro Coliseum in a Greensboro Regional semifinal against No. 1 South Carolina.

Fans who want to help send off Coach Courtney Banghart’s team should enter the main entrance to Carmichael Arena at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with the team expected to depart at 7:15.

Parking after 5 p.m. will be available at the Cobb Deck, along South Road and in the Raleigh Road visitor parking lot.
