Tar Heels in pros: Barnes hits huge OT 3 as Kings top Anthony’s Magic; Sharpe, Jackson put up G League double-doubles

By R.L. Bynum

In a battle of Tar Heels who have endured tough seasons with their teams, Harrison Barnes and Cole Anthony both played well. But while Barnes had a huge late play, Anthony made a costly mistake.

Barnes’ corner 3-pointer with 12 seconds left in overtime lifted the Sacramento Kings to a 114–110 road victory over the Orlando Magic in his best game in the last 10.

Barnes finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals for a 15.8 game score, his 29th game score of at least 15 this season but first since an 18.3 in a 23-point game on March 7 against the New York Knicks.

Sacramento is 27–48, 4½ games out of a play-in tournament spot in the Western Conference.

Anthony contributed 14 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. His bank shot with 2:01 left in regulation gave Orlando (20–55) a 105–97 edge but the Kings scored the last eight points of regulation. Sacramento’s Davion Mitchell stole the ball from Anthony and tied it on a layup with 12 seconds left.

Anthony’s OT jumper put the Magic up a 110–107 before Sacramento scored the last seven points of overtime, including Barnes’ 3 with the game tied.

In the G League, Day’Ron Sharpe put up yet another double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in Saturday’s 139–119 homecoming road victory over the Greensboro Swarm (the Hornets’ affiliate).

Sharpe is averaging 19.3 points and 13.3 rebounds during the 2022 portion of the season.

Justin Jackson also had a double-double with 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists Friday in the Texas Legends’ 121–112 home win over the Memphis Hustle.

Coby White went from collecting 23 points and six assists in Chicago’s 126–109 Thursday loss at New Orleans to going scoreless with two rebounds and a steal in Saturday’s 98–94 Bulls win at Cleveland.

He put up a 16.8 game score against the Pelicans for his 10th of at least 16 this season after having 12 such games last season.

Against the Cavaliers, it was his third scoreless game of the season and seventh time with a negative game score after doing it four times last season.

Tony Bradley played one scoreless minute against the Pelicans and didn’t play against Cleveland (coach’s decision.)

Ed Davis also didn’t play (coach’s decision) in the Bulls-Cavaliers game after two scoreless minutes in Cleveland’s 117–104 Thursday loss at Toronto.

Reggie Bullock was 1 of 11 from the floor and had two points, eight rebounds and three assists in Dallas’ 116–95 Friday loss at Minnesota.

Danny Green had eight points in 15 minutes off the bench in Philadelphia’s 122–97 road win Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers.
