Tar Heels in NBA: Back as Bulls starter, White scores 19, hits 6 3s but in 4th straight loss

By R.L. Bynum

If the Chicago Bulls are going to turn things around and be successful in the playoffs, Coby White will be a big part of it with Lonzo Ball out for the season.

Back in the starting lineup, he did what he could Friday with 19 points, a season-high-tying six 3-pointers and four assists, but the host Bulls lost to the Charlotte Hornets 133–117 for their fourth consecutive loss.

Chicago (45–36) has clinched a playoff berth and will be the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference, facing No. 3-seed Boston in the first round.

White, who started in place of Ayo Dosunmu for only the second time since Feb. 16 and the first time since March 12, has scored in double figures in three consecutive games for only the second time since mid-February.

White has found his shooting stroke of late and is 11 of 19 from 3-point range in the last three games.

Tony Bradley didn’t play for Chicago (coach’s decision).

Wayne Ellington played 22 minutes, his most playing time since March 14, and scored 10 points and two 3-pointers in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 120–101 home win over Oklahoma City. It was his best output since scoring 12 points against the Los Angeles Clippers on March 3.
