Ryan McAdoo reportedly enters transfer portal

A Carolina men’s basketball player has reportedly entered the transfer portal but his likely departure won’t open up a scholarship for the program that’s at the 13-scholarship limit.

Ryan McAdoo, who turned 23 Saturday, has entered the transfer portal, according to verbalcommits.com, as a graduate transfer.

McAdoo was on scholarship for his last two seasons at UNC but, given the program’s scholarship numbers, would likely only be able to return for a fifth college season as a walk-on with 13 other players already on scholarship.

He participated in senior day activities at Carolina’s last home game.

The 6–5, 210-pound forward played one season at Florida Gulf Coast, then transferred to Carolina. After redshirting for the 2018–19 season, he played 42 minutes over 25 games in three seasons for UNC, scoring one point and pulling down five rebounds.

His father, Bob McAdoo, was a star for the Tar Heels’ 1972 Final Four team, had a long NBA career and is in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

His cousin, James Michael McAdoo, played for Carolina for three seasons and in the NBA for four seasons.
