Black invited to G League Elite Camp in Chicago

Leaky Black is getting multiple opportunities to show what he can do to possibly continue his basketball career in the United States.

After the 6–9, 205-pound wing revealed Wednesday on Snapchat that he would participate in a pre-draft tryout with the Golden State Warriors, he was announced Friday as one of the 45 players invited to the G League Elite Camp in Chicago on May 13–14.

Invitations go out after teams submit a list of players they want to see at the Combine. Players go through strength and agility tests, shooting drills, measurements and other activities, including five-on-five games.

Some players will be invited to the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago on May 15–21.

If Brady Manek’s experience a year ago is any indication, going to the Combine could lead to a spot on an NBA Summer League roster. Manek went to the Combine last year and played for the Charlotte Hornets in the Summer League before signing to play in Australia with the NBL’s Perth Wildcats.

Also headed to the Combine are two former Clemson players — center P.J. Hall and wing Hunter Tyson — and former Miami center Norchad Omier.

Black’s defensive skills give him a chance of earning an NBA roster spot if he can continue to improve his perimeter shooting.

He played 155 games over five seasons for the Tar Heels, averaging 5.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He scored a career-high 18 points twice last season, in a Jan. 4 home 88-79 win over Wake Forest and in the 77–66 victory Feb. 27 at Florida State. His lone double-double was a 13-point, 10-rebound performance in the 63–57 loss Feb. 4 at Duke.
