Horvath, left off All-ACC first team, makes Perfect Game’s first team All-America list

The inexplicable absence of Carolina junior Mac Horvath from the All-ACC first team continues to look like a massive injustice as more postseason awards roll out.

On Thursday, Horvath made the Perfect Game All-America first team in one of the three outfield spots three days after the American Baseball Coaches Association named him to the All-Atlantic Region First Team. On Friday, the ABCA named him third-team All-American.

Horvath is the 27th UNC player to earn first-team All-America honors and the first since Aaron Sabato in 2019.

The versatile player from Rochester, Minn., was one of the best offensive players in the ACC, ranking second in home runs (24) and stolen bases (25), fourth in runs (73), seventh in doubles (21) and slugging percentage (.711), eighth in RBI (66) and 10th in OPS (1.129).

Horvath is the first ACC player since 1999 — and first in school history — to steal 20 bases while hitting 20 home runs and 20 doubles in the same season. He produced career-highs in 10 offensive categories while hitting the second-most home runs in a single season in school history.

Horvath played stellar defense, whether at third base, right field or center field. It’s likely that he’ll be a high draft pick and sign a professional contract.

Other Perfect Team All-Americans from the ACC were Virginia catcher Kyle Teel, the league’s player of the year, Wake Forest third baseman Brock Wilken, Wake Forest pitchers Josh Hartle and Rhett Lowder and Miami pitcher Andrew Walters. LSU designated hitter Tommy White, a former N.C. State player, also made the team.
