Black signs two-way contract with Charlotte

After playing for the Charlotte Hornets’ Summer League team, Leaky Black’s reported two-way contract with the team became official on Wednesday.

In three Charlotte games during the California Classic and NBA Summer League, Black averaged 2.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 15.7 minutes per game, but will no doubt get more of a chance to show what he can do playing for the Greensboro Swarm, the Hornets’ G League team. All eight of his Summer League points came in Charlotte’s 89–83 loss Thursday to New Orleans when he scored two 3-pointers.

With a two-way contract, he can play for both Charlotte and Greensboro next season.

Former Carolina center Mitch Kupchak, the Hornets’ general manager and president of basketball operations, signed him to that contract.

Black, who grew up in nearby Concord, played in a school-record 155 games for Carolina, starting in 130 during the last five seasons. He averaged 5.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals in 26.9 minutes per game for his career.

Black made the ACC All-Defense Team in his final two UNC seasons.
