Coach Hubert Davis’ reshaped team will get plenty of non-conference tests over a schedule North Carolina announced on Wednesday, including facing UConn, the reigning NCAA champion, and Kentucky in two of five neutral-site events.
Previously unreported elements of the schedule include an exhibition game against St. Augustine’s (8–18 last season) on Friday, Oct. 29, a home game against Lehigh (14–14 last season, final NET ranking of 272) on Sunday, Nov. 12, and a home game on Friday, Dec. 29 against Charleston Southern (8–21, 304). It will be the first meeting between UNC and Charleston Southern.
The Tar Heels, who open at home on Monday, Nov. 6, against Radford (19–15, 173), face tough competition. They meet Tennessee (25–11, 5) at home on Nov. 28 in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge, Kentucky (22–12, 26) on Dec. 16 in the CBS Sports Classic in Atlanta, Oklahoma (15–17, 70) on Dec. 20 in the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte and Connecticut (31–8, 3) in the Jimmy V Classic on Dec. 5 in Madison Square Garden.
In addition, potential opponents on Nov. 22–24 at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas include Michigan (18–16, 57), Memphis (26–9, 22) and Stanford (14–19, 96). The Tar Heels face Northern Iowa in the first round on Nov. 22, then meet either Villanova or Texas Tech on Nov. 23, Thanksgiving Day.
