Tar Heels in NBA: White’s big game helps Bulls end skid, overcome Kessler’s double-double; Anthony continues hot shooting

By R.L. Bynum

Coby White tied his season high with 18 points to help the Chicago Bulls snap a three-game losing streak and overcome a double-double from Utah’s Walker Kessler, while Cole Anthony’s hot shooting continued but in a loss.

White was 7 of 9 from the floor with a season-high four 3-pointers, seven assists and three rebounds while playing well on defense in the Bulls’ 130–113 home victory Monday over the Jazz. He has 18 points in two of the last three games after putting up that total Friday against Brooklyn for the Bulls (3–5).

White’s game score was a season-high 19.9.

Kessler, in only his second double-digit scoring game of the season, had 15 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks for Utah (2–6).

Anthony scored 19 points and three 3-pointers, shooting 7 of 13 from the floor, and had five assists and two blocks in Orlando’s 117–112 home loss to Dallas. He is shooting 50% (19 of 38) from the floor in the last four games.

The Magic (4–3) led 63–48 late in the first half but shot 34% in the second half.

“We did a lot of good things in the first half obviously,” Anthony said. “Hitting shots always helps, but we can’t let the missed shots affect what our defense does.”

It was a rough game for Harrison Barnes in Sacramento’s 122–97 loss at Houston. He was 1 of 6 from the floor and had three points and an assist in 22 minutes.

After not playing in the previous two Houston games (coach’s decision), Reggie Bullock played 12 scoreless minutes with a rebound and two assists.

Cameron Johnson missed his sixth consecutive Brooklyn game with a left calf contusion. In the Nets’ 129–125 home loss to Milwaukee, Day’Ron Sharpe had four points and a block in eight minutes.
