Love scores 28, misses potential game-tying 3 in loss; Adams scores career-high 33

By R.L. Bynum

The good news for Caleb Love is that he scored 28 points and five 3-pointers. The bad news was that he needed 25 shots to get them, missed a potential game-tying 3-point attempt with six seconds left, and his No. 10 Arizona team lost 73–70 at unranked Washington State.

Love, named last week to the Wooden Award’s Midseason Top 25 watch list, was 10 of 25 from the floor and 5 of 13 from 3-point range, as well as getting eight rebounds and three assists for a 17.0 game score.

The Cougars led most of the game until a Love 3-pointer gave Arizona (12–4, 3–2 Pac-12) a 57–55 lead with five minutes left, but they regained the lead minutes later.

It was Love’s eighth game with at least 20 points, but one short of his season-high of 29 that he scored against No. 1 Purdue on Dec. 16. Love had 11 games with at least 20 points last season for Carolina, topped by 34 in the four-overtime 103–101 loss in Portland to Alabama on Nov. 27, 2022.

Destiny Adams scored a career-high 33 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds Sunday in Rutgers’ 94–80 Sunday home loss to Penn State. She has double-digit points in four consecutive games and has scored at least 10 points 14 times for the Scarlet Knights (6–13, 0–6 Big Ten.)

Dawson Garcia collected 14 points and nine rebounds for a 12.1 game score Friday in Minnesota’s 74–62 road loss to Indiana. Garcia leads the Gophers (12–4, 3–2 Big Ten) in scoring (16.5 points per game) and rebounding (7.7).

Dontrez Styles contributed 11 points and three rebounds in Georgetown’s 80–67 Sunday loss at No. 4 UConn. The Hoyas (8–9, 1–5 Big East) have lost two games in a row.

Justin McKoy had nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists for an 11.6 game score as host Hawaii (10–7, 2–3 Big West) knocked off former UNC opponent UC Riverside 63–56 to snap a two-game losing streak.

McKoy helped secure the victory by making two free throws with eight seconds left.

Kennedy Todd-Williams had seven points, four rebounds and two assists in a 69–57 Ole Miss loss Sunday at Mississippi State. The Rebels (12–5, 2–2 SEC) have lost two of their last three games.

Coming off a career-best game with 24 points and three 3-pointers in Wednesday’s victory over Clemson, Tyler Nickel scored six points on 2 of 10 shooting in a 75–71 home loss for Virginia Tech (10–6, 2–3 ACC) Saturday to Miami.

No. 1 Purdue blew out Penn State 95–78 as the visiting Nittany Lions (8–9, 2–4 Big Ten) lost their second game in a row. D’Marco Dunn had five points and two assists off the bench, while Puff Johnson started and scored three points.
