It’s tough for a team to earn a spot in the Men’s College World Series, and it might be even tougher for fans of No. 4-seed North Carolina to get tickets if you want to make sure you are sitting with Tar Heels fans.
UNC continues its pursuit of the program’s first baseball national championship at 2 p.m. ET Friday (ESPN) against No. 12 Virginia, in the Tar Heels’ 12th trip to Omaha. It’s expensive for fans to get there and find a reasonably priced room in addition to the price of tickets.
Fans are doing whatever they can to support the Tar Heels. Longtime Rams Club member Greg Cauley began a nearly 21-hour drive on Tuesday from his home in Kinston — with overnight stops in Knoxville, Tenn., and St. Louis — to Lincoln, Neb., where he’ll commute during the tournament just as he did in 2008.
According to UNC, it has 1,203 request for the 700 tickets that the NCAA allotted to the school for games Friday through Monday and 600 for games Tuesday through Thursday at the 24,500-seat Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
Rams Club members had until 5 p.m. Monday to request tickets, and UNC used the priority points system to determine who could buy tickets. Rams Club members will find out Wednesday morning if their requests were fulfilled.
Members could ask for up to eight tickets per game, and UNC offered multiple ticket-purchase options, ranging from tickets to single games to a full package that includes all games.
It’s not clear yet how many tickets were requested, but there were more than 5,700 requests last week for Super Regional tickets for the 4,100-seat Boshamer Stadium.
The good news is that plenty of tickets are available for public sale on Ticketmaster, the MCWS’s official ticket partner.
For Friday’s Virginia game, ticket prices range from $28 for an outfield seat to $272 for a seat behind the plate (before fees).
Tickets are also available on other secondary ticket sites, and UNC-Virginia tickets are tagged on StubHub as “selling fast.”
