In their first game against each other, former North Carolina teammates RJ Davis and Caleb Love each scored 13 points Sunday in their second and final games at the G League Elite Camp in Chicago.
Davis’ Team 1 won 92–73 over Love’s Team 4 in the game at the Wintrust Arena as Davis’ team went 2–0 and Love’s team went 0–2 in the event.
“Really just trying to come in and make an impact and to get this win,” Davis said. “When I came in, I was ready. Was taking the open shots we needed, kind of bringing that energy off the bench, and I think I did that today.”
With the conclusion of the G League camp, which included 45 players, a select number will be invited to the NBA Draft Combine, which started Sunday and goes until next Sunday. The Combine includes former UNC wing Drake Powell.
“I think I did a pretty good job of [making] the most of my time and understand [that I had to] just play my game and be where my feet are, and hopefully, God willing, I’ll get the call up,” Davis said. “But honestly, I’m just happy with my performance from yesterday and today.”
Davis, who found the 3-point range after missing both attempts from outside the arc in his game Saturday, also dished out a game-high five assists, while Love had four steals.
“Thankfully, I was put together with a good team and a group of guys that just wanted to win,” Davis said. “They really care about who scored the more points. I was really just about playing for each other’s success. I think we do that today.
Former Yale player John Poulakidas led Team 1 with 16 points and four 3-pointers.
This was the second consecutive season that Love has participated in the G League Elite Camp.
