Coby White is off to a sensational start for the Chicago Bulls.
He followed up his 27-point performance in his season debut on Sunday with 25 points, five 3-pointers, seven assists and two steals and assisted on the buzzer-beating bucket in Wednesday’s 122–121 road victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Bulls have won two in a row after losing their previous five games. Chicago lost in White’s debut, 150–147 in double-overtime at Utah, and won 130–127 Tuesday at Denver with White sitting out for injury management before providing a big spark on Wednesday.
On the game-winning bucket, Chicago guard Kevin Huerter faked a screen, forcing a defensive switch, drawing Deni Avdja’s attention. White takes advantage and drives inside to draw a double team, then flipped a terrific pass to Nikola Vučević on the left wing, who sank the 3-pointer at the buzzer.
“He’s our connector,” White said of Vučević, who scored 27 points. “He’s our leader. He makes big-time plays. He’s super important to what we do. We rely on him. He has a high IQ and good feel for the game. He’s so dangerous. He can roll. He can pop. He’s a really, really good basketball player.”
In two games, White is shooting 45.2% from the floor and 47.1% from 3-point range, averaging 7.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
Caleb Love struggled from the floor for Portland, going 1 of 12 from the floor, missing all seven 3-point attempts and finishing with five points, three rebounds and two assists in nearly 18½ minutes off the bench. Through seven games, he’s shooting 29.4% from the floor and 20% from 3-point range.
On Tuesday, Harrison Barnes scored 23 points and four 3-pointers with five rebounds and three assists in San Antonio’s 111–101 victory over Memphis. He put up a season-best 21.0 game score with his second-best scoring game of the season.
Barnes made 9 of 14 shots, including seven straight points on a running hook, a nine-foot floater and a 3-pointer to give the Spurs a six-point lead with 53.2 seconds remaining.
Harrison Ingram returned after missing time with a left calf strain to collect 22 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and four steals in the Austin Spurs’ 134–120 win Wednesday over the Osceola Magic.
RJ Davis continued his hot start to the G League season with 20 points, four 3-pointers, three rebounds and three assists in his South Bay Lakers’ 132–126 victory Tuesday.

Pete Nance had another double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds in his Wisconsin Herd’s 114–95 loss Wednesday to the Grand Rapids Gold. Cormac Ryan wasn’t active for the Herd in that game.
