Keita slams on defender, puts up more good numbers as Barcelona makes championship game

By R.L. Bynum

Sayon Keita continued to put up impressive numbers in limited minutes for Barcelona at the NextGen EuroLeague Finals in Athens, Greece.

The 7–1, 215-pound incoming UNC freshman only played 15 minutes, 50 seconds in Saturday’s 101–84 victory over Team 3SSB, but still had 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, making both free-throw attempts. He pulled down five rebounds and blocked two shots.

He slammed down a dunk over a defender of a pick-and-roll in the second half.

Barcelona won Group B, and will play Group A winner Real Madrid in Sunday’s championship game. Real Madrid crushed Panathinaikos Athens 126–48 Saturday in its final group-play game.

Saturday’s performance comes after collecting 14 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks in 18 minutes of Thursday’s 97–83 victory over Crvena Zvezda Belgrade and contributing seven points and 12 rebounds and a block in only 19 minutes in Friday’s 110–80 win over Žalgiris Kaunas.

In 52 minutes so far in the tournament, he has 31 points, 27 rebounds and 10 blocks.

Incoming Duke freshman forward Joaquim Boutje Boumtje led Barcelona with 22 points and 11 rebounds in nearly 30 minutes in Saturday’s victory.
