North Carolina’s two football coordinators have the top two base salaries of any employee on the UNC campus, according to the UNC Salary Information Database. The database, updated on June 30, shows that Carolina’s defensive coordinator Geoff Collins (top photo) and offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey are the only employees on the Chapel Hill campus earning a base salary of more than $1 million.

Carolina reportedly to hire former player Smith Lyon as softball coach after record season at Marshall
Carolina will hire former Tar Heels player Megan Smith Lyon as its softball coach, according to a report Saturday by Extra Innings Softball. Smith Lyon, who graduated from UNC in 1999, has spent the last five seasons at Marshall, where her teams went 160–70.
Wrestler O’Connor, diver Vazquez take top honors at Rammys; Maye pass Top Play
Two individual national champions — wrestler Austin O’Connor and diver Aranza Vazquez — earned Athlete of the Year honors at the Rammy Awards on Monday night at Memorial Hall. The awards program recognizes excellence in Carolina athletics over the previous year. Women’s basketball center Malu Tshitenge of women’s basketball and football defensive lineman Kaimon Rucker were the hosts for the event, which was back at Memorial Hall for the first time since 2019.

UNC softball player follows teammate in making history as a baseball coach
North Carolina softball player Kianna Jones is making history in the Coastal Plain League, an amateur wooden-bat league. Jones, who started 50 games as a redshirt sophomore last season for the Tar Heels, will be the first woman coach in league history as a bench coach overseeing baseball analytics and coaching the bases for the Macon Bacon. She isn’t the first member of UNC’s softball team to be a groundbreaker.
