With 24 talented newcomers, UNC faces challenging baseball schedule
After recruiting an outstanding transfer and freshman class, Coach Scott Forbes’ fourth North Carolina team will face a challenging schedule. The schedule, announced Thursday, includes 44 games against teams that finished in the top 65 of the RPI last season and 25 teams that made the NCAA tournament.

The reported UNC men’s basketball matchup with reigning national champion UConn became official on Monday. The Tar Heels and Huskies will play on Dec. 5 at Madison Square Garden in the Jimmy V Men’s Classic, with Florida Atlantic meeting Illinois in the other matchup. ESPN will televise both games but start times haven’t been announced.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Challenging Carolina pitchers generally hasn’t gone well for opponents, and that didn’t change Saturday. This time, the umpire questioned the pause in UNC starter Max Carlson’s delivery, but the right-hander took it out on Wright State. There’s no question that this motivated Carlson, who threw 6⅔ one-hit shutout innings as Carolina extended its season with a 5–0 victory Saturday in the Terre Haute Regional at Bob Warn Field over No. 4-seed Wright State.
