Transfer tracker: Tyson, 2nd in Big Ten in scoring, hits 22; Lubin just misses double-double

Cade Tyson has more field goals in five games at Minnesota than he scored in 31 games at Carolina last season. The senior wing kept his early-season momentum going Tuesday night, scoring a game-high 22 points and three 3-pointers in the Gophers’ 66–54 home victory over Chicago State, his fourth time with at least 20 points in five games, to push his average to 23.4 points per game.

Coby White hits 27, clutch shots in season debut; 22 for Davis, 34 for Nance in G League

The long-awaited season debut for Coby White was one to remember. Not looking at all rusty after missing the preseason and the first 11 games while recovering from a right calf strain, White collected 27 points, eight assists and four rebounds in the Chicago Bulls’ 150–147 double-overtime road loss Sunday night to the Utah Jazz.

UNC gets record kick, but can’t kick-start red-zone offense

WINSTON-SALEM — When your offense can’t find the end zone, kicking field goals can only get you so far, even if that includes a school record. Wake Forest made enough big plays and every promising UNC drive sputtered as the Demon Deacons ended a four-game losing streak against the Tar Heels with a 28–12 win Saturday night at Allegacy Stadium.

UNC women fall behind early but storm past Fairfield

No. 11 North Carolina recovered from a tough start and surged to a big victory, thanks to a huge effort off the bench from sophomore Laila Hull. Hull tied her career-high with 14 points as UNC came back from a nine-point first-quarter deficit and used a 13–0 third-quarter run on its way to an 82–68 victory Saturday at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas in the WBCA Challenge.

Turnover turnaround: Heels clean it up, share the ball well in crushing NCCU

CHAPEL HILL — In early-season mismatches when winning is a given, meeting the expected standard and improving are the goals. From the first Blue-White game, turnovers have been an obvious area that No. 18 North Carolina has had to clean up. Ten first-half turnovers, many of them of the careless variety, in the Tar Heels’ 97–53 victory over N.C. Central showed that problem lingers.
