UNC’s pitching, defense tame Hokies’ potent offense, claim series win

CHAPEL HILL — One of the best offenses in the ACC has looked average so far this weekend against No. 15 North Carolina’s daunting combination of pitching and defense. Virginia Tech leads the league in homers, is fourth in batting average, and came into the series averaging 8.9 runs per game. But the Hokies have scored three or fewer runs in back-to-back games for the first time this season after losing 6–3 Saturday at Boshamer Stadium.

Trimble, ‘Tar Heel at heart,’ talks in podcast interview about emotional time in portal

Seth Trimble said he was sad when he sent an Instagram post saying that he was entering the transfer portal. Trimble, who exited the portal after 14 days when he announced Tuesday that he will return to Carolina for his junior season, said during an interview on the Carolina Insider podcast (interview starts at 31:45) released Friday morning that, “ultimately, I’m a Tar Heel at heart.”

Honeycutt swipes more ACC history as UNC rolls by Pack

RALEIGH — After three consecutive one-run losses, No. 11 North Carolina wasn’t leaving anything to chance, particularly Vance Honeycutt and Colby Wilkerson. The Tar Heels backed outstanding starting and relief pitching with plenty of offense, rolling to a 14–3 victory Saturday at Doak Field to salvage a game from the three-game weekend series and clinch their third straight 30-win season as Honeycutt made more history.
