Jackson breaks loose with 41 points, 11 3-pointers; double-double for Sharpe in G League debut

By R.L. Bynum

Justin Jackson is off to such a sizzling start to his G League season that he has to be getting the attention of the Dallas Mavericks brass.

After collecting 25 points and four 3-pointers in Friday’s opener on the road against the Lakeland Magic, he followed that up with 41 against Lakeland on Saturday, making 14 of 19 shots and 11 of 15 3-point attempts, in a 120–103 win for his 2–0 Texas Legends.

After being part of the Milwaukee Bucks’ run to an NBA title, he signed with Dallas and was assigned to the Legends.

This is Jackson’s first season in the G League since playing six games for the Reno Bighorns in the 2017–18 season. His best previous scoring game was 26 against the Erie Bayhawks on Dec. 2, 2017. Jackson’s NBA career-high is 28 against Golden State on Jan. 5, 2019, for the Sacramento Kings.

Jackson’s best 3-pointer total in an NBA is five. He’s done it twice, the last time against the Washington Wizards for the Dallas Mavericks on March 6, 2019. His UNC best was seven 3-pointers in a Dec. 7, 2016, win against Davidson.

His career-high at Carolina was 34 points in a Dec. 17, 2016, loss to Kentucky.

After scoring seven points and playing only 14 minutes in four appearances with the Brooklyn Nets, rookie Day’Ron Sharpe had a productive G League debut with the Long Island Nets.

In 22 minutes during a 114–100 loss at Delaware, Sharpe put up a double-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and four blocks. He made his only 3-point attempt.

In the NBA Saturday, Reggie Bullock scored in double figures for only the third time in nine games as Dallas beat Boston 107–104. Bullock came off the bench to score 13 points on 3 of 8 shooting from 3-point range in the Mavericks’ second consecutive victory.

In Chicago’s 114–105 loss to Philadelphia, Tony Bradley had four points and seven assists against his former team. Danny Green missed his third consecutive Sixers games with left hamstring soreness.

In his second game of the season, Wayne Ellington scored eight points on 3 of 8 shooting in the Los Angeles’ Lakers’ 105–90 loss at Portland. Nassir Little had eight points and five rebounds for the Blazers.

Cameron Johnson scored four points on 2 of 8 shooting for Phoenix in the Suns’ 121–117 home win over Atlanta.

Cole Anthony was listed as questionable for Orlando’s home game Sunday night against Utah with a left ankle sprain but is now expected to be available.
