UNC opens men’s hoops season with four November home games

Carolina’s home non-conference men’s basketball schedule will include games against UNCW, College of Charleston, Gardner-Webb, James Madison and The Citadel.

The Tar Heels’ non-conference schedule was announced Friday, as well as a Friday, Oct. 28 exhibition game at the Smith Center against Johnson C. Smith. That’s the night before the homecoming football game against Pittsburgh.

Carolina, coming off a 29–10 season that culminated in the Final Four, faces the Seahawks in the season opener on Monday, Nov. 7 (two days after the football game at Virginia) in the first of four November home games.

UNC meets College of Charleston on Friday, Nov. 11 (the day before the football team’s game at Wake Forest), Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, Nov. 15 and James Madison on Sunday, Nov. 20 (the day after the football team’s home game against Georgia Tech).

After playing three games Nov. 24–25 and Nov. 27 in the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Ore., (potential opponents are Alabama, UConn, Iowa State, Michigan State, Oregon, Portland and Villanova) and visiting Indiana in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 3, UNC plays its final non-conference home game on Tuesday, Dec. 13 against The Citadel.

Carolina will play on Dec. 17 in the CBS Sports Classic (opponent and location to be determined; likely to face either Ohio State or UCLA) and Dec. 21 in Charlotte in the Jumpman Invitational (opponent to be determined; other teams are Florida, Michigan and Oklahoma.)
