ACC men’s basketball tournament will be in N.C. for five straight years; women’s event headed to Charlotte in 2027

The ACC men’s basketball tournament will be in North Carolina for five consecutive seasons starting in 2025, the longest run since the event was held in the state from 1990 to 2000, with the women’s tournament going to Charlotte in 2027.

The league announced future sites on Thursday.

The men’s tournament will be at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center in 2025, 2026 and for the 75th tournament in 2028, with the event at the Greensboro Coliseum in 2026 and 2028. This year, the tournament is in Washington’s Capital One Arena.

“We are also pleased to have been able to deliver so quickly on our commitment to continue to hold numerous tournaments and championships in cities across the state of North Carolina as part of the ACC Board of Directors’ decision to relocate the conference office headquarters to Charlotte,” ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said.

The league announced that the women’s tournament will be at the Greensboro Coliseum in 2024 and 2025 but didn’t announce a site for the 2026 event.

The tournament in 2027 will be played in Charlotte’s Bojangles Coliseum, the home of the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. That facility was called the Charlotte Coliseum when the 1982 UNC national championship men’s basketball team beat James Madison 52–50 in its NCAA tournament opener.

Aside from the 2017 women’s tournament that was held in Conway, S.C., because of HB2, the event has been held in Greensboro every other season since 2000. It was last in Charlotte when it was held from 1997 to 1999 at the site of the 2027 tournament, which was called Independence Arena at the time.

The baseball tournament will alternate between Charlotte’s Truist Field (2024, 2026 and 2028) and Durham Bulls Athletic Park (2025, 2027 and 2029).

The men’s and women’s soccer tournaments will be at WakeMed Soccer Park through 2029. The men’s and women’s tennis championships will be at Cary Tennis Park through 2029.
