All five UNC alums who played in NBA games Sunday night scored in double figures, with Coby White’s 18 points and Cole Anthony’s 16 points both coming in victories. The Chicago Bulls (31–18) have won three of four after White scored 18 points for the second consecutive game in a 130–116 home victory over Portland.

Reggie Bullock has dealt with struggles and shooting slumps in his first season with the Dallas Mavericks but produced his best game of the season Saturday night. Bullock came off the bench to score 23 points on eight field goals and six 3-pointers, all season-highs, in the Mavericks’ 132–104 home win over the Indiana Pacers.

Harrison Barnes and Cole Anthony both played well on Wednesday night but, as with many nights with their struggling teams, the efforts came in defeats. One night after scoring four points in one of his worst games of the season, Barnes rebounded with 28 points in the Kings’ 121–104 loss at Atlanta for their fifth consecutive defeat and 10th in a row on the road.

Nassir Little keeps battling injuries but they don’t seem to be slowing him down. He was dealing with a right knee contusion coming into Tuesday’s 109–107 home loss to Minnesota and sprained his left shoulder, appearing to be in a lot of pain, with eight minutes left. Little, who returned briefly in the final minute of the game, finished with 20 points, four 3-pointers, eight rebounds and two assists after scoring 19 points at Portland in his previous game.

After struggling to find a rhythm in his first three games after returning from a sprained left ankle, Cameron Johnson found it big-time on Monday night, just when the Phoenix Suns need it. In his first start since Jan. 6, Johnson scored 20 points and tied career-highs with five 3-pointers and three steals as the short-handed Suns earned a big 115–109 home victory over the Utah Jazz for their seventh consecutive victory.

In a battle of the previous two starting Carolina point guards, Cole Anthony won the game but Coby White had better statistics. Anthony collected 11 points and five assists as Orlando snapped a four-game losing streak with a 114–95 home victory over the short-handed Chicago Bulls. It was the Magic’s first win in three tries against Chicago this season but Anthony didn’t play in the earlier Bulls wins on Nov. 26 and Jan. 3.

Thanks to Harrison Barnes, the Sacramento Kings had a shot at pulling the road upset of reigning NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night. Barnes had his second-best game of the season with 29 points, six rebounds and three assists but it all wasn’t enough as the Kings lost 133–127 for their third consecutive defeat.

With news suggesting that Coby White may continue to start for Chicago for a while, he played well again and helped the short-handed Bulls snap a four-game losing streak. White scored 16 points and tied his career-high with four steals as Chicago took a 117–104 victory Wednesday over the Cleveland Cavaliers. He pulled down four rebounds and dished out three assists.

In the G League, Justin Jackson continues to make the case that he instead belongs in the NBA. In 28 minutes of his Texas Legends’ 117–94 home win Monday over the Oklahoma City Blue, he scored 33 points on 12 of 17 shooting, including 8 of 12 from 3-point range, with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

On a weekend with injuries to two UNC alums, Nassir Little and Day’Ron Sharpe put up big games as starters and Justin Jackson was back in the G League showing why he shouldn’t be there.

Coby White scored in double figures for the eighth consecutive game as the Chicago Bulls rolled to a 133–87 home win Tuesday night over the Detroit Pistons. White collected 13 points and three assists and continues to create tough decisions for Bulls management as the Feb. 10 trade deadline gets closer. He’s averaging 17 points in the last 10 games and shooting 51.4% from 3-point range in the last eight games.

In a battle of UNC alums Monday night, Nassir Little’s Portland Trail Blazers got the better of Day’Ron Sharpe’s travel-weary Brooklyn Nets, but Sharpe had the best game of his rookie season. In the Blazers’ 114–108 home victory, Little had 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal in his 14th consecutive start. Sharpe played a season-high 24 minutes and put up season-high totals of 14 points, six field goals, three blocks and two assists. He tied his season-high of seven rebounds, which he had collected in two earlier games, and was a team-high +14.

It’s not clear why Wayne Ellington didn’t play in the Los Angeles Lakers’ previous two games. What is clear after Sunday night’s game is that his instant offense was being wasted on the bench. By the time Ellington finally got into their home game against Memphis a minute into the fourth quarter, the Lakers already trailed by 26 points.

Cole Anthony consistently is delivering one good game after another but the frustrating losses for his Orlando Magic are coming at the same pace. Anthony contributed 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists on Saturday, but it came in a 97–92 road loss to the Detroit Pistons (8–30), in a matchup of the NBA’s two worst teams. It was the eighth consecutive loss for the Magic (7–33), which has the worst record in the league.
